Preschool at Home: How to Structure the Day for Toddlers & Preschoolers

If they’re coloring or building a tower, keep them engaged in that one activity for as long as possible before you let them move on to the next. My daughter loves to grab a puzzle and put in 3 pieces and walk away or sit down and read 2 pages and then walk away. Teach your 2-year-old how to act appropriately to avoid tantrums in public.

A very common curriculum for preschoolers is to do activities for one letter of the alphabet each week. Oftentimes this only starts at around age 3 or 4, however, my daughter has shown a lot of interest in letters and letter sounds and anything to do with school. Shes building synapses in the brain, putting pieces together to make sense of her surroundings. Educational activities, whether for yourself or even her caregiver, can give everyone a sense of structure and routine. And with weekly toddler lesson plans, you can reinforce a theme over the course of many days.

Letter of The Week Activities (start at age 2.5 yrs.)

Trips to the grocery store are learning experiences, helping clean the house, cooking and taking care of daughter are all learning experiences too. Have fun with your boy...paint...draw with chalk...go for walks and explore the outdoors....help him to get dressed on his own. Homeschool Preschool is simply a way to describe you taking advantage of opportunities to guide your little learner as they discover the world around them. Therefore, I recently started doing some letter activities with her. This way, by the time she turns three and starts our official preschool homeschool curriculum, she will already have a good grasp of all letters and letter sounds. Preschool is a great time to start teaching kids to sort, match, and categorize.

Puzzles are great for building fine motor skills and learning about spatial relationships. You can work on the other pre-reading skills like phonemic awareness . Just as a baby can understand you before they can speak, most kids will understand more Spanish than they can produce.

We also do storytimes at our library and have weekly playdates with other kids so please no lecturing about my son not getting social interaction! Does anyone have any experience doing this and can you give me some tips, suggestions, books, and/or websites to use? I was a teacher before having my son , so I am excited about being able to put my skills to use again. I stay at home and I also have a 5 month old daughter, so easy prep is appreciated!

Mix up a big batch of liquid chalk , then send kiddos out to the driveway to create. Introduce your child to the experimentation process by growing a few flowers! First, brainstorm with your child about the ideal conditions to grow a flower, and then help them set up an experiment to test those theories. For example, you could grow a flower by the window for natural light and in the basement with no light and observe what happens in a couple of weeks. Before creating the tie-dye flower, encourage your child to predict what might happen as the food color touches the coffee filter. I actually own this excellent all-in one big book to find a lot of nursery rhymes and stories. Each week, I also have a song and a poem or nursery rhyme that we sing and/or read during the week. I also found other book lists online that would be appropriate. As long as by the end of the week, most or all of what was planned gets done – that ‘s great.
